Marie struggles at a toxic, sexist workplace, even facing sexual assault. Searching for peace and solitude, she goes to pray at the church... and lives to see the consequences of such a prayer.
Or does she?
Written and directed by my friend Cara Heitz, Ataraxie is a high school indie project made on a very low budget.
Filming Ataraxie was my first experience shooting a short film, and not just scattered pieces of time and moments. Filming "sets," locations, sequences, and not just pretty places was a whole new world for me. Shooting with a crew is stressful due to the lack of time (one week), with last-minute issues always occurring at the worst possible time. Overall, I still got to shoot a short film with my friends and my sister, and it was a great experience I will never forget, one that also improved my ability to shoot, edit, and color grade because of the huge amount of work it took over the span of a few months. I feel sad knowing that some people won't ever get the opportunity to experience it. As for me, I can't wait to participate in more serious projects!
